Fishing has been the driving passion in Scott Barrus' life since he could walk. Spending the summers at his cabin on the Weber River in Utah, he spent every minute possible on the water. His first job at 14, was making lead jigs, and drift boat anchors for his cousin's company after school. He first picked up the fly rod at the age of twelve and learned how to tie flies that same year. He considers his home waters the Green River, Provo River, and Weber River and is very knowledgeable about all three.
Scott spent the 1997 season learning the Green while living in Dutch John, and began his guiding career the following season. He has guided in Wyoming, and Colorado, but prefers guiding the Green River out of a drift boat. Scott is very patient, and enjoys teaching the dry fly approach to fishing.
Scott is the owner of Spinner Fall Guide Service. When he's not at work, you might find him hiking with his family, snowboarding, steelheading, traveling, or surfing.
Scott was on the winning team of the Green River Single Fly Event in 2010, 2011, 2015, & 2016.
"Scott Barrus is easily one of the most talented guides on the Green River. His youthful energetic approach to “dry flying” the Green is refreshing and very effective. Scott knows where the fish are holding and what it takes to get them out. Tie on one of his famous “Barrus Bugs”, hit a seam, and get ready for some reel action! Great Fishing! Does it get any better? I can’t wait for my next trip, and the chance to experience the Green River the way that it should be experienced!"
