Ryan ‘Opie’ Caggiano is from Albany, NY and moved to Alta, Ut when he was 19 years old. He started fly fishing about 10 years ago and 2017 will be his 3rd guide season for Spinner Fall on the Green. He has worked in the ski industry for 16 years and has been an Alta season passholder the entire time. He was initially drawn to Utah by the stories of the ‘Greatest Snow on Earth’ but it didn’t take long to figure out that when the skiing isn’t good, the fishing usually is!
Opie fished the Green quite a bit before guiding and was lured into guiding for Spinner Fall by the Cicada madness that was the summer of 2014! On and A, B, C camp float we caught 40-50 fish each a day on Cicadas! Best days of fishing Ive ever had, still to this day! Although the Cicadas have not been prolific the last couple of years, youre always dreaming about getting that Cicada madness again!
In the summer of 2016, Opie organized the “Gourmet on the Green”, a fundraiser for Utah Stream Access Coalition which raised over $11,000. It was the best single fundraising event that the organization has held. In November 2016, Opie was nominated and elected to the Board of Directors for USAC.
