As a third generation fly fisherman, Collin has been paddling kayaks and fishing trout waters since he was 9 years old. His father took him along on frequent fishing trips from an early age.
When I was a kid we camped a lot, always by a lake we could paddle across because my old man liked to get away from campgrounds. My father was all about kayak camping and started my brother and me paddling very young. He wasn’t interested in missing any days on the water due to our age. The first time I paddled the Green I was 9, and the memory of that emerald green water tattooed my brain. I was excited and nervous sitting there beached in my kayak looking up at Flaming Gorge Dam. My dad paddled up behind me, pulled me off the shore and said “stay behind me and watch what I am doing, paddle when I do”. It worked out that I didn’t drown, and for the next few years we lived on that piece of water. I am certain those years had a significantl impact and helped to shape me. I am grateful my father believed in me.
Regular floats down the Green River forced him to develop paddling skills while also learning how to fool wily trout. He was tying his own flies by the time he was 10 and fly fishing has been a huge part of his life ever since. Collin’s passion and pure enthusiasm for fishing is contagious, and he finds true happiness in helping spread it to others. He gets just as much enjoyment out of helping others catch fish as he does having them tug on his own line. Fishing with Collin is always memorable and sure to include some good laughs and great stories!
