Originally from Salt Lake City, Bret first picked up the fly rod at the age of eight. He learned to fish and tie flies with the guidance of his uncle and cousins, who helped introduce fly fishing to many people throughout the greater Salt Lake City region. Fishing trips to the Green, Provo, Madison, and Snake Rivers are where he was schooled at stalking, casting, and the technical approaches to fly fishing.
He began guiding the Provo River in 1994, before graduating high school, and continued to guide throughout his college years. After graduation, he moved to Dutch John to pursue his love of drift boat guiding. Over the past decade, he has spent time throughout the Western United States and northeastern Canada in pursuit of lake trout, atlantic salmon, steelhead, and trout on the fly. If he’s not fishing somewhere, you can find him enjoying his love of fly tying, skiing, cooking, and photography.
"I have had the opportunity over the last several years to experience some of the countries best fisheries and guide services. I always look forward to fishing Utah's Green and Provo Rivers with Bret and the Spinner Fall guide team. The crystal clear canyon country make this area one of the most unique and beautiful fisheries in the country. I have brought several friends out to Utah over the past few years and have enjoyed the hospitality and friendly disposition of the guides and locals. Spinner Fall's knowledgeable staff and service are among the best in the industry." - Mark O'Meara 1998 Masters Champion / PGA
